2007 Events
September 9, Wayne Mezitt - “Hybridizing”.
R. Wayne Mezitt, a third generation nurseryman and Massachusetts Certified Horticulturist, is now Chairman of the Weston Nurseries, Hopkington, MA. He has served as president of numerous state and national nursery and landscaping associations.
October 14, Mal Condon - “Hydrangeas”.
A life long gardener, Mal has been propagating and growing hydrangeas for the past twenty years. He established Nantucket Hydrangea in 1997 and grows an eclectic selection of more than 1,000 named hydrangeas.
November 11, Jack Alexander - “Lilac Hybrids”.
Jack is a Horticulturist and Chief Propagator in the Dana Greenhouses at the Arnold Arboretum. His specialty is lilacs and he will speak about his new hybrid and the work of hybridizing lilacs at the Arnold Arboretum. Jack will also remind us of the best lilacs for our area.
November 18, Founders Day Brunch.
The brunch is sponsored by the Massachusetts Chapter at Tower Hill Aboretum at 10 a.m. The Worcester County operates Tower Hill as its headquarters on 132 acres in Boylston.
December 9, Annual Christmas Party.
The party will be held Sunday from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. at the home of John and Wynn Palmisano, 18 Ewing Drive, South Orleans, MA. A pot-luck dinner is planned.

2008 Events
January 13, Sally & John Perkins - “National Convention”.
Sally and John will give a presentation on the 2006 National Convention held in San Francisco, CA (April 12-15), also wonderful pictures of special plants, gardens and the people.
February 10, George Reilly - “Restoration Gardens”.
George is the owner of Land Design Associates in Orleans. His special interest is restoring the gardens of our historic Cape Cod houses to their original design and beauty.
March 9, Tom Ward - “Woodland Plants”.
Tom Ward is the Greenhouse Manager of the Arnold Arboretum which is a research and educational institution in Boston, MA. Tom has a degree in Botany from the University of Massachusetts.
April 13, Annual Dinner - Steve Hootman - “Species Rhododendrons”.
The dinner will be held in the Courthouse Room at the Jailhouse Restaurant in Orleans. Steve is curator of the Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden. He was featured in a Pacific Northwest article.
April 16-19, Annual Convention .

May 10 and May 17, Annual Plant Sale .
The chapter is once again holding their spring sale of hardy rhododendrons and azaleas, especially selected for Cape Cod and the region. This year's sale includes well-known, reliable favorites in a range of plant sizes as well as a limited quantity of young, rare, and unusual rhododendrons sure to please plant collectors. Sale dates are Saturday May 10th in Orleans and Saturday May 17th in Sandwich. The Orleans sale will be held from 8:00 a.m. to noon at the village green on Rt. 28 between the library ad the Nauset Regional Middle School. The Sandwich sale will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Rt. 6A directly across from the state fish hatchery. For questions regarding the plant sales contact Larry Pannell at 508-888-9780.
June 7 Plant Tours/Picnic.
Members are invited to tour the gardens of Robert & Audrey Furman (42 Great Fields Rd., Brewster) at 10:00 a.m. and Connie & Dick LeClair (32 Pochet Rd., East Orleans) at 11:30 a.m., then meet at the Display Garden in Orleans at 12:30 p.m. for a picnic lunch. Bring sandwich and chair and we will provide drinks and dessert. Following lunch, at 1:30 p.m., a tour of the Display Garden will be given, which will include the history of the garden and what is in it. More detailed address directions are in the April 13 newsletter.
